My ancestors came from Renwick Cumberland to Haltwhistle Northumberland to help build the Steam Railway Bridges etc. liked the place and stayed. In my opinion Haltwhistle Northumberland is one of the most beautiful parts of England. Steeped in history, castles full of secrets, Mystery and the odd ghost. Haltwhistle is a central place for Tourists to stay, is within easy reach of the Lake District, Carlisle, Newcastle, Hexham (headquarters for the local government, Tynedale District Council), Gateshead Metro Centre (great place to shop) Keilder Water largest man made lake in England, Alston the highest market town in England, Alston also has a Steam Railway Best of all we are only about one and half miles from Hadrian's Wall a world heritage site and very near the four main sites Housesteads, Carvoran, Birdoswald and Vindolanda which is my favourite, A bit about these sites for disabled Housesteads is up a field, Carvoran is a roman army museum on the level, Vindolanda is pretty good from west entrance, Birdoswald is best you can stop your car on side of the road reach out of the window and touch the wall its that close, Lets get back to Halty (local name)it is a great place to stay and some of the friendliest people in the world live here. We also class ourselves as being The Centre of Britain by calculations of latitude and longitude made by Mr David Taylor of the Centre of Britain Hotel formerly known as The Red Lion which was a hostelry in the old days of stage coaches, this building was also a Pele Tower fortified like castles in the days of the Border Reivers what about the secret tunnel and the mystery of where it goes, If tourists have a must do list then Halty and Hadrians wall better know as the Roman wall is the place to visit and if you are a Watson with connections a visit to Renwick Cumberland must be on it or you have really missed out What I am displaying on this web site at the moment is only a small part of a large collection of photo's letters and other bits and pieces, pages the most important thing is a book of Poems written by Thomas Watson and published in 1860 in his memory, as far as I know there are only two copies in existence I have copied this onto the computer in JPEG files and I am prepared to give anyone a copy who can genuinely connect and add their tree to mine and be prepared to allow me to publish it with mine on the web site. Caleb in 1890 wrote a letter to his relatives in Australia of which I have a copy kindly given to me by Mr & Mrs Jackson his earnest wish was that the information he provided would be used in research of Family History. The first draft of this tree was done by Dorothy Margaret Godson (nee Lattin). Then passed to her Uncle Francis Joseph Lattin in 1974. That side of the tree was passed to me by Miss Dorothy Irving when added to mine it now has over eight hundred names. My Auntie Bee who is long since deceased always said that our ancestors father originated from Scotland and fought in the rebellion of 1715 they were beaten and put to flight and a farmer sympathetic to the course hid him until things settled down. He fell in love with the farmer's daughter and married her, who was that Scotsman; Caleb mentions the mystery of the ancestry before 1721 nothing is know of the earlier years.
